Event Details
Hear the acclaimed Williamsburg Choral Guild, an 85-voice choir now celebrating its 50th anniversary, present Haydn’s masterpiece – The Creation. This oratorio, written in 1798, portrays the creation of the world as depicted in the books of Genesis, Psalms, and John Milton’s Paradise Lost. The piece is divided into three parts, dealing, in turn, with the creation of Heaven and Earth, the creation of animals and humans, and, finally, the idealized love, joy, and harmony of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Accompanying the chorus will be an 18-piece chamber orchestra, as well as several consummate vocalists.
The Choral Guild is led by its Artistic Director, Dr. Michelle Kwok, a graduate of Indiana University, who was runner-up for the 2024 Dale Warland Prize for choral conducting. Dr. Kwok is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning community choir Fluente Chorus, and now serves as Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor at The College of William & Mary.
